North Bank Road Structure Fire 10/01
At 18:07 on October 1st Grays Harbor Fire District #2 was called to a structure fire at North Bank Road located in Central Park with flames and smoke showing.

Grays Harbor Fire District #2 responded with 3 engines, 1 water tender, 1 rescue, 1 medical unit and 1 support vehicle and 18 personnel. Montesano Fire Department provided mutual aid response with Ladder 9221 and 4 personnel.

Upon arrival of the first engine company; the structure (a 783 sq. feet detached multi level shop) was found to be 30% consumed by fire and it had already vented through the roof. Incident Commander Casey Novak ordered a defensive attack. Due to the large fire load of stored cut fire wood in the structure, it made it very difficult to get the fire 100% under control; until Vessy & Sons was brought in to help tear apart the very large wood storage stock.

I.C. Novak deemed the fire under control at 20:45 and crews moved into mop up operations at that time. All crews cleared the scene at 22:38 and the scene was turned over to the property owner. Cause and Origin was undetermined at this time and the investigation continues.

Special note that during this incident the district was dispatched to an ALS Aid call in the Central Park area, along with another possible structure fire located up the Wynoochee Valley, which ended up being a glowing light on the back of a house.

Chief Prater noted that everyone (volunteers and career staff) did an outstanding job and was happy to report no injuries at this incident. Special thank you to Montesano Fire and Adam Vessy of Vessy & Sons for their help.
