Grays Harbor Fire District 2, with Fire District 5 as mutual aid was dispatched to a structure fire overnight at 10:34 on September 9th in the 300 block of Monte Elma Rd.
When crews arrived they found a storage building partially involved in fire, with a camp trailer located next to it. Crews checked multiple camp trailers on the property for occupants, but none were located. The trailer sustained some moderate damage to an end exposed to the fire. The storage building was a total loss and an adjacent shed received some minor exterior damage.
While firefighters were tending to the fire, Monte Elma Rd was blocked due to fire apparatus and equipment being in the roadway for several hours.
The fire was knocked down 20 minutes after arrival of fire crews. The trailer sustained some exposure damage, with no other damage to the property other than the shed itself.
With help from the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Department we were able to make contact with the property owners and advise them of the fire and we were able to confirm that no one had been staying on the property.
Fire District 2, along with Fire District 5 utilized tender support for bringing water in which was instrumental in putting out this fire.
A fire watch crew remained on scene until 6:30 this morning and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
